December 19th, 2010: Horror Christmas, Op. 4 ¶

Time draws near Christmas and everyone is surely stressed out. You have to buy presents and listen to these same old traditional Christmas songs they sing year after year. Even on the radio. You have to bear it year after year. And it’s really getting tiresome.
In case you haven’t heard German Christmas chorals yet… don’t do it. It sounds horrible. You can only hear songs written in some major key, without any dynamic and tempo change. They have to be repeated over and over again because there are a lot of verses.
Of course it’s tradition to play some Christmas songs, so I did something very daring: I took some of the Christmas chorals turned them into a minor key and wrote some variations on them. It’s pretty interesting to hear those familiar songs in a different perspective.
Songs I took:
- O Tannenbaum (Oh Christmas Tree)
- Schneeflöckchen, Weißröckchen (Snowflakes, White Skirts)
- Alle Jahre wieder (Every Year Again)
-
